The seasons
The coast dries out, the sea settles and the shacks reopen. Days sit around 28–33°C with cooler evenings, and rain becomes rare. This is the window for the beach trek, camping and every water activity. December and January are the busiest weeks — book travel and stays early.
Humidity climbs and midday heat is real, but the sea is often calm and prices soften. Walk and swim early, rest in the shade through the afternoon, and save day trips for the coast. By late May the pre-monsoon showers begin.
The Western Ghats turn loud and green, waterfalls run full and Gokarna becomes a different place. But the sea is rough, most boats and water sports stop, many shacks close, and the trek's rocky sections are genuinely dangerous. Come for waterfalls and off-season calm, not beach time.

The monsoon from June to September is lush and dramatic, but rough seas close many shacks and water activities, and the beach trek becomes slippery and leech-prone. It suits waterfall and off-season travellers rather than beach trips.
October to March. Start by 8 AM and avoid the April–May heat and the June–September monsoon, when rocky sections are dangerous.
December is one of the best months — warm days around 30°C, cooler evenings, calm seas and almost no rain. It is also the busiest holiday period, so book accommodation and transport well in advance.
