Overview
Gokarna is not a resort camping destination. The two camping beaches — Half Moon and Paradise — have no road access, no permanent campsites and no facilities beyond what seasonal operators bring in for the winter. That is exactly why people love it.
From October to March, local operators set up tent camps on the sand: basic dome tents, mattresses, a shared bonfire and simple meals. You can also bring your own tent if you are self-sufficient and carry everything out with you. Camping is not permitted in the temple town area, and the far cove of Nirvana has nothing at all — treat it as wild coastline.
Book in peak weeks. Between Christmas and New Year, and around long weekends, tents at Half Moon and Paradise fill quickly. Reserve through your homestay or a local operator before you walk in.
The quieter of the two camps, a small crescent 20–45 minutes on foot from Om or a short boat ride. Half Moon has seasonal shacks in peak weeks, which makes it the easier first camping experience: you can still get a cooked meal and a bottle of water without carrying everything in.

Wilder and more remote, reached by a boulder traverse from Half Moon or a boat from Om. Paradise is where the night sky gets properly dark and the water sometimes glows with bioluminescence. Facilities are minimal, so bring what you need and expect to carry it out.
