Weekend-sized plan
Gokarna 2-Day Itinerary
Enough time to see the temple town, swim at Kudle and Om, walk the 5-beach trek and catch two sunsets. Best for weekenders arriving from Bengaluru or Goa.
Before you start
- Base yourself at Kudle or Om so both sunsets and the trek start are a short walk away.
- Arrive the night before if you can — this plan assumes you wake up in Gokarna, not on a bus.
- Carry water and cash every day; there are no ATMs on the southern beaches.
- Check the tide the evening before your trek day.
Day one
Temple town and the first sunset
-
7:00 AM — Temple town walk
Start early while it is cool. Visit the Mahabaleshwara Temple, the Kotiteertha tank and the hilltop Maha Ganapati Temple, then walk Car Street for coffee and breakfast. Dress modestly and remove footwear where required. More detail: temple town guide.
-
10:30 AM — Main Beach stroll
Walk down to Gokarna Main Beach where the town meets the water. It is the start of the coastal footpath and a good place to see the surf schools set up. Currents are strong here — this is a walk, not a swim.
-
11:30 AM — Walk or ride to Kudle
Follow the path over the headland to Kudle Beach. Check in, drop your bags and settle into a shack for lunch. Swimming is generally calm by day, but there are no lifeguards.
-
2:00 PM — Afternoon at Om Beach
Walk the 40–60 minute clifftop path to Om, or take an auto around by road. Swim, watch the watersports, or simply claim a table at a café on the main crescent. This is also the moment to sort your boat options for tomorrow if you would rather not walk back from Paradise.
-
5:30 PM — Sunset at Kudle
Return to Kudle for the coast's classic sunset — the beach faces west and the drum circles start early. Dinner at a shack, then an early night before the trek.
Day two
The 5-beach trek and a second sunset
-
7:30 AM — Start the trek from Kudle
Leave by 7:30–8 AM with 2–3 litres of water. The route climbs the headland to Om, then bends around to Half Moon, Paradise and Belekan. Full route, distances and safety: 5-beach trek guide.
-
9:00 AM — Swim stop at Half Moon
Cross the rocks carefully near low tide and take a swim in the calm crescent. Seasonal shacks may be open for a drink; signal here is patchy to none.
-
11:00 AM — Paradise Beach
Continue over the boulder traverse to Paradise. If you camped here, pack up and carry everything out. From Paradise you can either finish the walk to Belekan or take a boat back toward Om.
-
1:00 PM — Finish at Belekan and return
Walk up to the road at Belekan and take an auto back to Gokarna, Kudle or Om. Agree the fare first. Alternative: a boat from Paradise or Belekan to Om, roughly ₹150–₹300 per person. Lunch on arrival — you will have earned it.
-
4:00 PM — Slow afternoon by the water
Swim, nap or take a surf lesson at Main Beach. If you have an evening bus or train, shower and check out in good time — the station is about 10 km from town.
-
5:30 PM — Final sunset
Watch the sun drop one more time at Kudle or Om, then head out. If you can, stay a third night and add a day trip — see the 3-day itinerary.
What this trip costs
Excluding travel to Gokarna, budget roughly ₹2,000–₹3,000 per person per day for a stay, food and local transport, or less if you are hostel-minded and eating at local joints. Add ₹150–₹300 if you take a boat and ₹500–₹1,500 if you do watersports. Full breakdown: Gokarna trip cost.
Swap-ins if you have more time
- Goa side-trip: Gokarna is only about 140 km from Panaji.
- Mirjan Fort: 21 km north, easy to add to a departure day.
- Camping: trade the second night for a tent at Half Moon or Paradise.
FAQs
Two-day trip questions
Is 2 days enough for Gokarna?

The 5-beach trek from Kudle to Belekan is the experience to prioritise, along with sunset at Kudle or Om and a morning in the temple town.
How much does a 2-day Gokarna trip cost?
Excluding travel to Gokarna, budget about ₹2,000–₹3,000 per person per day for a stay, food and local transport, depending on the property and season.
