Gokarna 3-Day Itinerary

Three days is where Gokarna clicks: the trek without rushing, a night closer to the stars, and a day trip inland to forts and waterfalls.

Best season: Oct–Mar Walking: 10–15 km Add-on: beach camping

Day one

Arrive, temple town, Kudle sunset

  1. Morning — Arrive and check in Kudle or Om

Drop bags at your stay, then walk into the temple town while it is still cool. Keep the first day light if you have travelled overnight.

  2. 11:00 AM — Mahabaleshwara and Car Street 2 hours

Visit the Mahabaleshwara Temple and the Kotiteertha tank, then eat a simple veg meal on Car Street. Add the hilltop Maha Ganapati Temple if your legs are fresh. Etiquette details: things to do.

  3. 3:00 PM — Main Beach to Kudle walk 30–40 min

Walk the coast path from town through Main Beach and over to Kudle. Swim, settle into a shack and watch the sunset from the sand.

  4. Evening — Dinner at Kudle early night

Fresh fish, solkadi and an early night ready for the trek. Charge everything and top up your water.

Day two

The 5-beach trek and a night under the stars

  1. 7:30 AM — Trek from Kudle 6–8 km

Start early. Walk Kudle → Om → Half Moon → Paradise, with swims and shack stops. Route detail: 5-beach trek guide.

  2. 12:30 PM — Lunch at Om or Half Moon 1 hour

Om has the most food options; Half Moon's seasonal shacks are simpler. Refill water wherever you can.

  3. 3:00 PM — Paradise, and set up camp tent ₹500–₹1,000

If camping, claim a tent at Paradise (or Half Moon if you want easier facilities). Swim before sunset and keep an eye on your belongings. More: Gokarna camping guide.

  4. Evening — Bonfire and stargazing no signal, no streetlights

Eat with the camp, then let your eyes adjust to the dark. This is the point of the trip — no screens, no schedule. Keep valuables in your tent and don't swim at night.

  5. Alternative — Return to your stay boat ₹150–₹300

Not camping? Take a boat from Paradise or Half Moon back to Om, or finish the full walk to Belekan and return by auto. Your room is waiting.

Day three

Forts, cliffs and waterfalls — or a slow exit

Option A — Mirjan Fort and Yana day trip

Hire a car and driver for the day. Start early with Mirjan Fort (about 21 km), the 16th-century laterite stronghold of Rani Chennabhairadevi. Continue inland to Yana's black limestone towers and, if it is not mid-summer, the pool at Vibhooti Falls. Back by evening.

Option B — Murudeshwar and the coast road

Drive north to Murudeshwar (about 55 km) for the giant Shiva statue and temple complex, then return along the coast. A gentler day that still feels like a real road trip.

Option C — Slow morning and surf

Skip the car entirely. Take a surf lesson at Main Beach, kayak the Aghanashini mangroves near Tadri, or simply do nothing on Kudle until your bus or train leaves. No one has ever regretted the third option.

Departure tips

Allow 30–45 minutes to reach Gokarna Road station from the beaches, more in peak season. Buses leave from the town centre. If you are camping, pack out everything you carried in.

Budget notes for three days

  • Stays: ₹800–₹2,500 a night for shacks and guesthouses; higher at Christmas–New Year.

  • Day trip car: rates vary with distance and season — agree a package price before you leave.
  • Food: ₹400–₹900 a day.

FAQs

Three-day trip questions

What is the best 3-day Gokarna itinerary?

Day one: temple town, Kudle and Om, sunset. Day two: the 5-beach trek, with camping at Half Moon or Paradise or a return to your stay. Day three: a Mirjan Fort and Yana day trip, or Murudeshwar and a slow beach morning before departure.

Is 3 days too long in Gokarna?

No. Three days is the sweet spot — enough for the trek and a day trip without rushing. Travellers who want waterfall trips, surfing or slow beach time often stay four or five days.

Should I camp or keep my room for the trek night?

If you want the full experience, camp at Half Moon or Paradise on trek night and keep your main stay for the other nights. Otherwise, walk the trek as a day route and return by boat or auto.
